Yesterday, Generations United and Foster Kinship delivered the symposium and training event, Helping Children of the Opioid Crisis: Supporting Grandparents and Other Relatives Raising Children.
Jaia Peterson Lent, deputy executive director of Generations United, and Ali Caliendo, executive director of Foster Kinship, were among the presenters at the session, which was made possible with support from the Rx Abuse Leadership Initiative (RALI).
Families impacted the opioid crisis shared their stories.
Other presenters included Terry Kerns, opioid coordinator for the Nevada Attorney General’s Office, and Clark County Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick.
The symposium followed with a training for child welfare and aging service providers, community-based organizations, juvenile justice, mental health, and substance use treatment providers and others who serve families where grandparents and other relatives are raising children.
